The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has suspended its General Manager of Engineering and Projects, Muaz Ali, for one month while Government authorities investigate his alleged involvement in the theft of two containers of cigarettes from Maldives Customs.

According to a memo signed by MIFCO CEO Brigadier General (Rtd) Farhath Shaheer, Muaz Ali was suspended under the company’s employee regulations. His responsibilities have been reassigned, with project management handed to Manager Mohamed Shameem and the engineering unit placed under Consultant Engineer Ubaidulla Hussain.

MIFCO stressed that while the case is unrelated to its operations, the company takes matters of employee integrity seriously and will continue to act in line with Maldivian law, corporate governance standards, and internal policies.
