President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that services at the Lhaimagu Health Centre will be extended to 16 hours once a new building currently under construction is completed. The announcement was made while addressing residents and local leaders of Lhaimagu in North Miladhummadulu Atoll during his ongoing tour of the inhabited islands.
The President assured residents that although heavy rain prevented the launch of several development projects, all initiatives would proceed as scheduled. These include the additional building for the Lhaimagu Health Centre, the Fitness and Recreation Centre, and the new Council Secretariat building.
Highlighting further development plans, President Dr Muizzu stated that the new health centre building will feature expanded ward capacity and enhanced laboratory facilities to support 16-hour operations. He also confirmed that the stalled Waste Management Centre project would be reassigned to a new contractor to resume work.
Additional initiatives announced during the visit include the renovation of the futsal pitch, construction of a handball court within the year, and the inclusion of a new school office building in the upcoming budget. Plans were also outlined to develop a harbour, establish a swimming track, and open a branch of the Centre for the Holy Quran on the island. The President assured that ongoing electricity issues would be addressed as scheduled by Fenaka Corporation.
During the meeting, residents submitted further requests, including improvements to the pre-school, opportunities to build housing on private plots through long-term payment plans, and the implementation of other key development initiatives.
Concluding the meeting, President Dr Muizzu reaffirmed his Administration’s commitment to completing all ongoing and planned development projects on the island, noting that the Government now monitors and reviews project progress on a daily basis.
Lhaimagu residents presented the President with a commemorative plaque in appreciation of his visit and the Administration’s continued support for the island’s development.
