The Maldives has been shortlisted in two categories of the World Travel Awards (WTA) 2025, standing among the leading contenders for global recognition in the tourism industry.

The country is nominated for World’s Leading Destination and World’s Leading Green Destination, placing it alongside 19 other destinations, including Dubai, Spain and Indonesia.

This is the sixth consecutive nomination for World’s Leading Destination, while its nomination for World’s Leading Green Destination follows a win in the same category last year. Visit Maldives CEO Ibrahim Shiuree said the nominations reflect the collective efforts of the industry in combining quality experiences with sustainability, noting the importance of global recognition for the Maldives’ tourism sector.

Voting closes on 26 October 2025, with the results expected to further shape the Maldives’ global standing if it secures back-to-back wins.
