The Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources has announced a special training programme for youth interested in pursuing careers in the fisheries sector, organised with the support of the World Bank.
According to the Ministry, the initiative aims to inspire greater youth participation in the industry and equip participants with practical skills and technical knowledge related to fisheries.
The three-month programme forms part of the Transforming Fisheries Sector in the South-West Indian Ocean Region and Maldives project. Participants will receive technical training and gain hands-on experience in fishing operations, learning directly from some of the country’s most experienced fishermen.
The programme is scheduled to begin in November and will run until January 2026. It is open to youth under the age of 24 who are not registered in the National Fishermen’s Register. Applicants under 18 may participate with parental consent.
Applications for the programme are now open and will be accepted until 23 October 2025.
