Visit Maldives Club, in collaboration with the Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC), has announced that the Burunu Boma Global Sport Fishing Tournament will return for its second edition from 13 to 15 June 2026.

The event, recognised as the largest sport fishing tournament in the Maldives, aims to attract a wider range of local and international participants while promoting the country as a destination for sustainable marine sports tourism.

The first Burunu Boma tournament, held in 2025, featured nine teams, including one international team and eight local teams, and drew considerable attention from the global angling community. The event promoted responsible fishing practices through its ‘Catch and Release’ approach, further enhancing the Maldives’ reputation for sustainable marine sports. Team Dubai emerged as the champion of the 2025 edition, securing the top prize of USD 25,000.

Visit Maldives Corporation Managing Director and CEO Ibrahim Shiuree said the inaugural tournament demonstrated the Maldives’ potential to diversify its tourism sector by hosting international sporting events. He said the objective for the 2026 edition is to expand participation, strengthen partnerships and establish Burunu Boma as a recurring event on the global sport fishing calendar.

The Burunu Boma Global Sport Fishing Tournament 2026 will take place from 13 to 15 June, with a closing ceremony scheduled for 17 June. Registration details and the event venue will be announced later through official Visit Maldives channels.
