Air India has officially commenced operations from the newly opened Terminal 1 at Velana International Airport (VIA).
A special ceremony was held on Saturday to mark the milestone, attended by Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives G. Balasubramanian, Air India Airport Manager Jaindar Singh Rana, and senior officials from Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).
During the ceremony, Air India’s new check-in counters were inaugurated, and gifts were presented to 118 departing passengers. Arriving passengers were welcomed with traditional Maldivian cultural performances.
Air India joins 18 other airlines that have already begun operations at the new terminal, the largest expansion in VIA’s history. The terminal’s opening is expected to enhance passenger experience and strengthen connectivity between the Maldives and international destinations.
