Maldives attends inaugural SWIOFish 5 steering committee meeting

According to a post on the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources’ official X account, Maldivian officials have taken part in the inaugural steering committee meeting of the SWIOFish 5 - TransFORM project in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Dr Aminath Shafia, Permanent Secretary, and Shafiya Naeem, Director General of MMRI (Marine & Marine Resources Institute), represented the Maldives at this significant gathering.
The TransFORM project, formally known as the Transforming Fisheries Sector Management in South-West Indian Ocean Region and Maldives Project, is a World Bank initiative with a total funding of USD 64.8 million. Of this sum, USD 52.8 million has been earmarked specifically for the Maldives to enhance fisheries management in the South-West Indian Ocean (SWIO) Region.
Following the steering committee meeting, representatives are taking part in an extraordinary session of the South-West Indian Ocean Fisheries (SWIOF) Commission, also being held in Dar es Salaam.
