The Managing Director of Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, has revealed that land worth MVR 5.4 billion was allocated free of charge under the Binveriyaa scheme launched by the previous administration.

The scheme, which aimed to grant land to eligible individuals, saw 18,955 people receive 9,001 plots. These comprised 1,351 plots in Hulhumalé Phase 2 and 3, 2,218 plots in Gulhifalhu, and 5,432 in Giraavaru Falhu.

Fazul appeared before the Parliament's Public Accounts Committee to address concerns over unpaid rent for the allocated land. He stated that whilst HDC is supposed to receive MVR 5.4 billion under the Binveriyaa scheme, no related transactions have occurred thus far. He also indicated that the current Government is addressing these matters.
