Operation Alimagu: 29.68 kilos of drugs seized

The Maldives Police Service has announced that 29.68 kgs of drugs have been seized under Operation Alimagu, a nationwide anti-narcotics operation conducted across 39 islands in the country.
Police officials disclosed the details at a press conference held to brief the media on the progress of the operation, which deployed over 500 officers. A total of 110 individuals were arrested following searches conducted at 105 locations, along with inspections of one vessel and nine additional boats.
Police noted that 61 suspects were tested for drug use, and 38 individuals were presented before the court for remand hearings. Of these, the courts ordered 12 suspects to be detained for 30 days, while others received detention periods ranging from five to 15 days. One individual, a 29-year-old man from Malé, was remanded until the conclusion of his trial. Police also confirmed the arrest of a 41-year-old woman from Lhaviyani Atoll.
Authorities said that drugs and cash were recovered during the raids, with MVR 188,959.84 seized from properties searched in connection with the operation. Police noted that many of the individuals ordered into remand have prior criminal records, and their identities have been shared publicly.
Operation Alimagu was launched on 1 August, with simultaneous activity carried out nationwide on 13 November. Police stated that the operation targeted organised drug trafficking networks and will continue in phases over the coming days.
