First Lady highlights progress towards building an inclusive society

First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has stated that the Maldives is progressing towards building a more inclusive society, emphasising the importance of supporting persons with special needs. She made the remarks at a ceremony held to present employment certificates to newly recruited staff with special needs.

The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has facilitated employment opportunities for 30 individuals with special needs, enabling them to earn an income and contribute to their communities. Their appointment letters were presented by the First Lady.

Speaking at the ceremony, the First Lady said the achievement reflects the Administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of persons with special needs.

She noted that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has prioritised programmes that support people with special needs, adding that such efforts will have a meaningful and positive impact on their lives. The First Lady highlighted that every society includes individuals with varying health conditions, and it is the responsibility of governments to address these realities by ensuring inclusivity and equal opportunity.

She also observed that the newly appointed employees represent a diverse group of educated individuals with different abilities and competencies.

The First Lady concluded by encouraging the new recruits to bring happiness, hope and encouragement to others with special needs, reinforcing the importance of fostering a supportive and inclusive community.
