Europe accounts for nearly 59% of tourist arrivals to Maldives

Tourist arrivals from Europe accounted for 58.7 per cent of total arrivals to the Maldives as of November 2025, representing a growth of 10.6 per cent compared to the same period last year.

According to statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, Central and Eastern Europe accounted for the largest share within the European market at 21.2 per cent. This was followed by Western Europe at 14.7 per cent, Southern Europe at 11.1 per cent, Northern Europe at 10.7 per cent, and Eastern Mediterranean Europe at 7.4 per cent.

Russia emerged as the largest European source market, with 253,835 arrivals, followed by the United Kingdom with 181,301 tourists, Germany with 152,739, and Italy with 132,126 arrivals.

The Asia and Pacific region accounted for 32 per cent of total arrivals, led by China with 312,160 tourists, while India contributed 117,177 arrivals.

The Americas represented 4.6 per cent of total arrivals, with the United States accounting for 58,695 tourists. The Middle East contributed 3.8 per cent, with Saudi Arabia leading the region at 27,383 arrivals. Africa accounted for 0.9 per cent of total arrivals, with South Africa recording the highest number from the region at 7,799 tourists.

To support continued growth in the tourism sector, the Government has intensified promotional efforts through Visit Maldives across both established and emerging markets. In addition, new tourism initiatives are being introduced, including the promotion of halal tourism and the issuance of the first permit for a sustainable township under the Special Economic Zone framework.
