Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced that land reclamation works at Hulhumalé Phase III have reached 74.6 per cent completion.

In its latest update, MACL said 47 hectares of land have been reclaimed so far, out of the total planned 63 hectares for the Phase III development.

Land reclamation for Hulhumalé Phase III began in October 2023, though progress was affected by several temporary stoppages. Works resumed on 10 November 2025 and have since accelerated following the deployment of additional heavy machinery to the site.

To speed up reclamation, the Government has mobilised two large dredgers, each capable of handling up to 22,000 cubic metres of sand per cycle. Among them is a trailing suction hopper dredger operated by Boskalis, which commenced operations at the site on 28 November.

Once reclamation works at Hulhumalé Phase III are completed, the Government plans to proceed with the allocation of land plots in the newly reclaimed area.

Following the completion of Phase III, the large dredgers currently deployed at the site will be reassigned to land reclamation works at Gulhifalhu. The Government is continuing multiple reclamation projects across the Greater Malé Region as part of efforts to address long standing housing challenges and expand urban development capacity.
