Land reclamation works at Hulhumalé Phase III are scheduled to be completed by 20 January, Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib has said.

The Minister made the remarks while addressing a press conference at the President’s Office on Sunday to brief the media on the Ministry’s ongoing projects.

Minister Dr Muththalib said housing development remains a key focus of the Government, with planning centred on ensuring long term security for future generations. He noted that instead of increasing housing units from one bedroom to two, priority is now being given to three bedroom units to provide families with a more comfortable living environment.

Providing an update on Hulhumalé Phase III, the Minister said land reclamation is progressing at a rapid pace. Of the total 63 hectares planned for reclamation, 47 hectares have already been completed. He said the remaining works are expected to be finalised by 20 January, after which the handover process will begin.

The Government has already conducted the draw for land allotments in Hulhumalé Phase III under the Binveriya Scheme. A total of 698 land plots were allocated during the third phase of the scheme, across seven different plot sizes.

These include 181 plots measuring 1,650 square feet, 242 plots of 2,050 square feet, 132 plots of 2,450 square feet, 62 plots of 2,850 square feet, 41 plots of 3,250 square feet, 16 plots of 3,650 square feet, and 24 plots measuring 4,000 square feet.
