Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef has stated that the most significant lesson he has learnt from President Dr Mohamed Muizzu throughout his political career is the importance of listening to the citizens and responding to their concerns with practical action.
Speaking during an interview celebrating the 63rd anniversary of Voice of Maldives about his early involvement in politics, the Vice President recalled observing national developments during his tenure at the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives, particularly towards the end of former administrations. He said the period shaped his belief that political leadership must be guided by respect, responsibility and accountability, noting that words and actions in public office must remain aligned with the interests of citizens and future generations.
The Vice President highlighted that working alongside President Dr Muizzu reinforced the value of engaging directly with communities, stating that the President’s approach emphasises carefully hearing public grievances before implementing decisions through official channels. He added that this practice has strengthened his own leadership approach, describing it as one of the most defining skills he has gained.
Reflecting on his decade in the Parliament, the Vice President stated that development within Faresmaathodaa demonstrated how progress can be achieved when policy decisions are based on public needs rather than individual interests. He said he intends to continue advocating for reforms that benefit society as a whole, rather than focusing on personal or political gain.
The Vice President concluded by reiterating that listening to citizens remains central to the current Administration’s governance model, describing it as essential to maintaining public trust, guiding development priorities and ensuring long-term national stability.
