Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced that drainage and settlement tank works under Phase 2 of the Malé North Side Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project have reached 50 per cent completion.
In its latest project update, MTCC said construction is progressing steadily, with curbstone installation now underway for the upgraded pedestrian lane. The company added that the installation of new wastewater and water supply lines is also in progress as part of the ongoing works.
Phase 2 forms part of the wider MVR 144 million redevelopment of Boduthakurufaanu Magu, a key infrastructure project aimed at easing long-standing traffic congestion in Malé City. The redevelopment includes the construction of wider four-lane roads, improved pedestrian access, and upgraded utility networks.
The project also features a new stormwater drainage system designed to mitigate flooding during periods of heavy rainfall, a recurring issue affecting road users in the area.
MTCC said the redevelopment is expected to significantly enhance accessibility and safety in Malé City by delivering modern, pedestrian-friendly road infrastructure once completed.
