The national airline Maldivian has announced it will commence direct flights to Dhaka from March 12, strengthening air connectivity between the Maldives and Bangladesh.

The airline said the decision follows increased demand from Bangladeshi nationals and Maldivians residing in the Maldives, with the route aimed at improving travel options between the two countries. Flights will operate twice weekly, on Thursdays and Sundays, with morning arrivals in Dhaka to facilitate smoother onward connections for passengers travelling to other destinations.

Maldivian has opened ticket sales for the route, noting that the service will provide significant relief during the upcoming Eid holidays, which coincide with the end of Ramadan. The airline said the flights are expected to benefit Maldivians travelling abroad as well as Bangladeshis returning home.

According to the airline, return fares between Malé City and Dhaka start at USD 399, with a checked baggage allowance of 30 kilograms per passenger.

A large Bangladeshi community resides in the Maldives, while Dhaka remains a key destination for Maldivians, particularly for education, contributing to sustained demand for direct air links between the two countries.
