Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has confirmed that 38-metre of sheet piling works have been completed under Phase 2 of the Malé North Side Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project.
According to MTCC, construction of the second block of the project, including the second block of the fish market, has now been completed. The company also noted that cabling related to adjacent buildings has also been completed as part of the ongoing works. Work is currently underway on the sea channel, while construction of the tie rod and anchor block is expected to begin later this week.
As part of the project, water pipes have been installed along a 70-metre stretch of the road. MTCC said a 250-metre section of asphalt road will be developed from the local market area to North Harbour, with the road to be widened to six metres.
Upon completion, the upgraded roads in the market area are expected to improve pedestrian safety and address long-standing flooding issues. A total of 1,088 metres is being developed under the Boduthakurufaanu Magu project, stretching from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to North Harbour, with 140 metres of work under the first phase already completed.
MTCC said the project is expected to reduce congestion in the commercial harbour area of Malé and facilitate smoother transportation of goods. The company aims to complete the second phase of road development before Ramadan and open the upgraded section to the public.
