First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has highlighted the importance of understanding, empathy, and equal access to knowledge in building an inclusive society, in a message shared to celebrate World Braille Day.
In a post on X, the First Lady said World Braille Day serves as an opportunity to honour the resilience and strength of persons with visual impairments, while recognising the vital role Braille plays in their everyday lives. She emphasised that access to knowledge should be regarded as a fundamental right rather than a privilege, and noted that inclusion begins with understanding and empathy.
She further called on communities to act with kindness and compassion, urging collective efforts to ensure that persons with visual impairments feel seen, supported, and empowered to participate fully in society.
World Braille Day is observed internationally on 4 January each year to raise awareness about the importance of Braille as a means of communication for people who are blind or visually impaired.
