An extraordinary sitting of the People’s Majlis has been scheduled for Monday to consider several key legislative and oversight matters.

The sitting will include the first reading and debate of bills proposing amendments to the Maldives Penal Code Act, the Maldives Pension Act, and the Constitution.

Parliament is also set to review President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s nomination to the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives. The nomination will be referred to the relevant parliamentary committee for further evaluation.

In addition, members will debate the findings of Committee on National Development and Heritage on the reemployment bill, following the completion of its review process.

The new parliamentary term begins in February each year. However, Parliament has yet to announce the date for its first sitting of the year.
