North Henveiru MP Ahmed Aifan has said that residents of Malé City place their trust in President Dr Mohamed Muizzu due to ongoing efforts to resolve long-standing housing challenges faced by the capital’s population.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on MMTV’s Niulhemundhaa Khabaru programme, MP Aifan said one of the most persistent concerns raised by Malé residents has been the shortage of housing. He noted that the public can now see tangible progress in addressing the issue through large-scale land reclamation and housing initiatives.
MP Aifan pointed to the rapid progress of land reclamation projects in Hulhumalé, Gulhifalhu and Ras Malé as visible examples of the Administration’s approach to expanding land availability. He said the pace of these projects has strengthened public confidence, as residents are able to observe developments firsthand.
According to the MP, the President’s commitments on housing are being fulfilled as promised, adding that the Administration has prioritised close engagement with communities and responsiveness to public concerns. He said this approach has contributed to growing trust among residents, particularly in Malé City.
MP Aifan also said that despite claims and criticism from the opposition, the public is aware of the progress being made on housing-related projects. He added that the visible advancement of reclamation works and housing plans has reinforced confidence in the Government’s ability to deliver on its pledges.
Highlighting details of the Government’s “Housing for All” policy, MP Aifan said that of the 15,000 housing plots announced under the initiative, 10,000 have been allocated for residents of Malé City. In addition, 7,500 flats are to be leased from the Malé region, with 4,000 flats designated specifically for Malé residents.
He further said that 1,500 flats will be allocated for non-residents of Malé City, while the remaining 2,000 flats are earmarked for Government institutions, the police, the Maldives National Defence Force, and other special priority categories.
