High Court Judge Uz Hassan Shafeeu has been appointed as the High Court’s representative to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
His appointment follows his selection by the High Court bench and was made in accordance with Article 158(c) of the Constitution, which provides for the inclusion of a High Court judge in the commission’s membership.
Judge Uz Shafeeu holds a Bachelor of Laws from the Maldives College of Higher Education and a Master of Comparative Law from the International Islamic University of Malaysia. He began his judicial career on October 27, 2013, serving at the Family Court, and later worked at the Civil Court.
He was appointed to the High Court on October 4, 2020, and also served on the Court of Appeal for a period of one year. With more than 14 years of experience in the legal field, Judge Uz Shafeeu has contributed to legislative drafting and has also worked as a law lecturer.
The Judicial Service Commission is a multi-sectoral body comprising the Speaker of Parliament, a Supreme Court justice, a High Court judge, a lower court judge, a Member of Parliament, a representative of the general public, the President of the Civil Service Commission, a presidential appointee, the Attorney General, and an elected representative of the legal profession.
