Member of Parliament for the Vilufushi constituency Hassan Waheed has said that development projects are now progressing rapidly in Thaa Atoll, in line with pledges made by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu during the Presidential election.

Speaking on MMTV’s Niulhemundhaa Khabaru programme, the MP said Thaa Atoll had remained largely excluded from major development initiatives under previous administrations. He noted that, as promised by President Dr Muizzu, a number of development projects are now underway across the atoll at an accelerated pace.

The MP said residents of Vilufushi have long called for development across the islands within the constituency. He pointed to the Vilufushi Airport project as a key example, noting that the development of an airport had once been considered an unattainable goal by residents. He said the project is now progressing continuously, with construction work taking place around the clock.

“Development projects are being prioritised and implemented at a fast pace. Several projects are underway across the three islands, and the airport, once a long-held dream of the people of Vilufushi, is now becoming a reality,” he said.

The MP further stated that the current Government has demonstrated a commitment to delivering on its pledges, adding that development efforts across the atoll reflect this approach. He expressed confidence that voters would support candidates contesting on behalf of the People’s National Congress in the upcoming local council elections, citing public acceptance of the development initiatives being implemented under President Dr Muizzu’s Administration.
