The Managing Director of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Ahmed Saudee has visited the site of Segment 2 of the Northside Boduthakurufaanu Road Development Project to inspect the progress of ongoing works.
He was accompanied by senior officials from the company, who joined him in reviewing the developments and assessing the next stages of construction.
The project, worth MVR 144.5 million, is one of the most significant infrastructure upgrades in Malé City. It aims to ease traffic congestion and improve resilience through the introduction of pedestrian‑friendly roads and a modern stormwater drainage system to tackle flooding during heavy rainfall.
MTCC has confirmed that sewer and water pipeline installation has reached 50 per cent completion, while reclamation works are progressing to raise the retaining wall to six metres. Pedestrian lane paving has also begun, alongside ongoing sheet piling works.
A 250‑metre stretch of asphalt road is being developed from the local market area to North Harbour, widened to six metres. In total, 1,088 metres of road will be upgraded, extending from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to North Harbour.
The first phase of the project, covering 140 metres, has already been completed. The second phase is scheduled for completion before Ramadan, after which the road will be opened to the public.
