The Government has awarded contracts for the construction of Islamic centres, mosques, and a Quran centre across five islands.
The projects are designed to serve as community hubs for worship and education and are part of an initiative to develop essential religious facilities.
Under the initiative, Central Line Pvt Ltd will construct the Naifaru Islamic Centre, featuring a mosque with a capacity for 1,000 worshippers, separate prayer areas for men and women, ablution facilities, classrooms, a library, and a convention hall. Fido Pvt Ltd will develop an Islamic Centre in Ihavandhoo, Haa Alifu Atoll, designed to accommodate 700 worshippers and offering similar community amenities.
In Villingili, Gaafu Alifu Atoll, K&F Holdings Pvt Ltd has been awarded the contract to build a 700-capacity Islamic centre, while Afami Maldives Pvt will construct a Quran centre on the same island, including classrooms, memorisation rooms, and office space. Afami Maldives will also develop a 500-person mosque in Gulhi, featuring gender-segregated prayer areas, a classroom, and a library.
This development drive highlights the Government’s commitment to supporting the religious and community needs of the country. The projects are part of a larger national plan, which will see a total of 15 new mosques completed in time for the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.
