Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar has announced that the Government will begin distributing canned tuna to households under the Roadha Hadhiyaa programme for the holy month of Ramadan 1447 starting Saturday.
The Minister made the announcement at a press briefing held today to brief the media on the distribution process. He stated that, in line with the pledge made by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, the Roadha Hadhiyaa distribution will continue for the third consecutive year.
As in last year, each household will receive one case of canned tuna containing 48 cans. Distribution will take place daily from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., except on Fridays. Token registration will open today, and the distribution process is scheduled to be completed by 11 February 2026.
The Minister explained that in islands and city areas outside Malé, every Maldivian family that cooks and eats separately will be considered a household. In the Malé area, each domestic electricity meter will be counted as a separate household.
According to the figures shared, there are 56,918 households in island and city areas outside Malé, while the Greater Malé area has 61,755 domestic meters. This brings the total number of households eligible for the programme to 118,673.
The State Trading Organization (STO) will continue supplying canned tuna to islands and city areas, with local councils overseeing distribution outside Malé. In Malé, Villimalé and Hulhumalé, distribution will be handled through designated centres.
A total of 15 distribution centres will operate in the Greater Malé area. These include eight centres in Malé City, one in Villimalé and six in Hulhumalé.
The Maldives Police Service will launch the Roadha Hadhiyaa portal to facilitate the distribution process. Registration through the portal will open on 22 January 2026, with distribution commencing on 24 January and continuing until 11 February.
Several Government ministries and State-Owned Enterprises are participating in the distribution effort. Members of the public who face issues in receiving their canned tuna case may submit complaints via WhatsApp to 7741446.
