A temporary market will be established in Malé City during the month of Ramadan to sell farmers’ produce at fair prices, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare said the initiative aims to facilitate the sale of agricultural produce brought to the capital in large quantities during Ramadan. The temporary market is intended to provide an organised platform for farmers and island communities travelling to Malé City to sell produce specifically prepared for the Ramadan season.
The Ministry has now opened applications for island councils interested in participating in the market. Councils have been advised to submit estimates of the main agricultural products supplied during Ramadan last year, along with the number of individuals expected to sell produce at the market this year.
Interested island councils are required to submit their application forms to the Ministry before the close of official working hours on 29 January 2026.
