Schools across the Maldives will operate only during the first week of Ramadan this year, according to the academic calendar released by the Ministry of Education.

The calendar, published on the ministry’s website, outlines key dates for the academic year, including school days, public holidays, and scheduled holidays for students and teachers.

Under the calendar, the academic year will begin on 27 January. Ramadan is expected to commence on 18 February in line with the Islamic calendar, with 19 February declared a school holiday. Classes will be held from 22 to 26 February, after which schools will close for the remainder of the holy month.

There will be no classes for students from 1 to 8 March following holidays on 27 and 28 February, as this period has been designated for Teachers’ Professional Development (PD) Days. The period from 9 to 22 March has been declared a Government holiday, coinciding with the final ten days of Ramadan.

Eid al-Fitr is expected to fall on 20 March, with schools scheduled to resume classes on 23 March after the end of Ramadan.
