A 396 kWp solar–diesel–battery hybrid power system with a 716 kWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is being installed in Baa Maalhos to enhance grid stability and reduce reliance on diesel fuel, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Environment. Once operational, the system is expected to save 185,837 litres of diesel annually and cut 455 tonnes of carbon emissions each year, contributing to a cleaner and more reliable energy supply for the island.

The Ministry stated that the project supports President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s target of achieving 33 per cent renewable electricity generation by 2028, marking another step in expanding sustainable energy infrastructure across island communities.
