First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has congratulated the Maldives national futsal team on securing first place at the SAFF Futsal Championship 2026, describing the achievement as a moment of great pride and honour for all Maldivians. In a message shared following the victory, the First Lady thanked the players for their outstanding performance and dedication in representing the nation.

The Maldives clinched the championship after defeating Bhutan 3–1 in their fifth match at the Nonthaburi Stadium in Thailand, securing 15 points from five matches and maintaining an unbeaten run. With one match remaining, no other team can surpass the Maldives’ points tally. The tournament, organised by the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF), marked the first edition of the SAFF Futsal Championship and featured seven participating countries. The Maldives’ triumph represents the country’s first SAFF futsal title, marking a historic milestone in Maldivian sports and the development of futsal in the region.
