President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has approved a MVR 1 million bonus to be awarded to the Maldives National Futsal Team following their victory at the SAFF Futsal Championship, as well as to the national football team that won the South Asian Super Cup in Sri Lanka. Speaking to State media, Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation Abdulla Rafiu said the bonus will be granted to the entire teams, including players and officials, in recognition of their achievements in bringing honour to the country.

The Maldives national futsal team secured the SAFF title after winning all their matches in the tournament, marking the country’s first SAFF Futsal Championship victory. The football team will also receive the bonus for winning the Super Cup held last year in Sri Lanka, a significant regional achievement. The minister said the funds will be distributed through the Football Association, adding that the Government continues to provide financial incentives and work closely with sports associations to improve athlete performance and strengthen Maldivian sports on the international stage.
