Velana International Airport (VIA) handled a total of 16,372 tonnes of transshipment cargo and 89,163 tonnes of cargo in 2025, according to figures released by the airport.

The figures represent an increase of 22 per cent in transshipment cargo and a 10 per cent rise in overall cargo volumes compared to 2024.

A breakdown of transshipment activity shows that sea-to-air transshipment accounted for 3,192 tonnes, while air-to-air transshipment totalled 13,180 tonnes during the year.

In terms of cargo handling, inbound cargo amounted to 66,840 tonnes, while outbound cargo stood at 22,323 tonnes.

Cargo operations at VIA during the year included freighter services operated by seven airlines. These airlines conducted a total of 524 freighter movements and handled 4,300 freighter throughputs. The freighter airlines operating to the Maldives during the period were Afcom, Fly Vaayu, National Airlines, Air Master, MNG Airlines, MJets and Qatar Cargo.
