The Government has extended the deadline to submit work site declaration forms for expatriate employment quota registration, following requests for additional time to complete the documentation process.

The Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology said the extension was granted due to a growing number of requests from employers to allow more time for the submission of notarised work site declaration forms and related documents required for site registration. Under the revised timeline, the deadline for submitting the required documents has been extended until 1 June 2026.

The ministry has instructed all employers to submit the Work Site Declaration Form and accompanying declarations through the registered Xpat site’s “Document Update Request” or “Site Permit Update” system before the revised deadline. Authorities warned that work sites which fail to submit applications within the stipulated timeframe will be suspended.

Policy changes to the permanent quota system for expatriate workers were introduced on 31 December 2025. Under the revised policy, employers are required to submit workplace declaration forms within specified deadlines as part of efforts to strengthen oversight and accountability in the expatriate employment framework.

The extension comes amid Government efforts to regulate expatriate employment in the Maldives and address violations of labour and immigration regulations. Authorities have stated that enforcement measures are being intensified to ensure expatriate workers are employed in accordance with the law, with action taken against those found to be engaged in illegal activities.
