The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has assured that works under the second phase of the Malé Northside Boduthakurufaanu Road Development Project will be completed before the start of Ramadan.
MTCC said development works in the local market road area are progressing as scheduled. The project commenced on 9 December last year and is advancing at a rapid pace, with 76 per cent of Segment Two completed so far.
Current works include quay wall construction, concrete works, panel installation and jetty works. Remaining activities involve the installation of 40-metre panels and anchors.
Once structural works are completed in line with the project timeline, preparations for asphalt laying will begin. These include the installation of drainage systems and sidewalks.
MTCC noted that while the schedule is tight and Ramadan is approaching, there is strong confidence that the works will be completed and the road opened to the public before the holy month.
Under the project, a 250-metre stretch of road from the local market area to the North Harbour is being developed, with the road widened to six metres. In total, 1,088 metres of roadway will be upgraded, extending from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to the North Harbour.
The first phase of the project, covering 140 metres, has already been completed. Once fully completed, the project is expected to modernise roads in the market area, enhance pedestrian safety, improve stormwater management to reduce flooding, and ease congestion in the commercial harbour area, enabling smoother transportation of goods within Malé City.
