The Ministry of Tourism and Environment said a World Bank delegation conducted site visits to Addu City and Fuvahmulah City to review the progress of solar power installations being implemented under the ASPIRE and ARISE projects.
According to the ministry, the visit took place this week as part of the Environment and Social Implementation Support mission covering World Bank–funded projects in the Maldives. The delegation was led by Janmejay Singh, Environmental and Social Standards Practice Manager for the World Bank’s South Asia Region, and included officials from the World Bank’s Sri Lanka Regional Office.
During the visit, the delegation inspected project sites for a 3 megawatt solar photovoltaic (PV) installation in Addu City and a 2 megawatt solar PV installation in Fuvahmulah City. The team also visited construction sites for associated Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), grid upgrades, and solar PV infrastructure, and met with teams involved in the ongoing works.
In Addu City, the delegation met with Mayor Ali Nizar to discuss progress on key components of the projects, including solar PV development, battery energy storage systems, and electricity grid upgrades. The discussions focused on implementation progress and feedback on ongoing activities at the local level.
