Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced a dedicated USD purchase service for Umrah pilgrims travelling with registered Umrah groups from 8 February 2026, in preparation for the Ramadan period.
The service will be available on banking days from 8 to 26 February at the BML Customer Service Centre on the ground floor of Ameenee Magu, between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Tokens for the service will be issued at the venue on the day of collection.
Only pilgrims included in the official Umrah travellers’ list submitted by Umrah groups will be eligible to use the service. Travellers must present their original national identity card or passport at the time of purchase. Where a representative is purchasing dollars on behalf of a pilgrim, the representative’s original ID card must also be presented.
Under the arrangement, pilgrims may purchase up to USD 500 per person, with a maximum of five travellers per transaction. Payments will be accepted via BML-issued debit cards.
Pilgrims travelling independently may continue to purchase dollars through the USD Booking Portal, with collection available at the departure hall of Velana International Airport.
During this period, Umrah-related dollar sales will not be available at branches in the Greater Malé region. Customers residing outside the Greater Malé area may continue to visit their nearest Bank of Maldives branches for foreign currency purchases.
