The Maldives Police Service and the Elections Commission (EC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to ensure security arrangements for the upcoming Local Council and Women’s Development Committee elections.

The agreement was signed at a ceremony held at the Elections Commission on Tuesday. Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen signed on behalf of the Maldives Police Service, while Elections Commission President Mohamed Zahid signed on behalf of the Commission.

The memorandum aims to strengthen coordination between the two institutions in preparation for the elections scheduled for 4 April. It also seeks to enhance overall security planning and cooperation during the election period.

Under the agreement, the Maldives Police Service will be responsible for providing security at polling stations nationwide, as well as safeguarding election materials and ensuring the safety of voters throughout the electoral process.

The Local Council and Women’s Development Committee elections are set to be held across the country on 4 April.
