President extends Independence greetings to Sri Lanka, notes enduring ties

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has conveyed greetings on Sri Lanka’s 78th Independence anniversary, reflecting on the enduring relationship between Maldives and Sri Lanka.

In messages sent to Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disanayaka and Prime Minister Dr Harini Amarasuriya, President Dr Muizzu conveyed greetings on the occasion and highlighted the close friendship shared by the two countries.

In his message to President Disanayaka, President Dr Muizzu said the anniversary comes at a time when Sri Lanka continues efforts towards economic stability, social cohesion and national development. He noted that relations between Maldives and Sri Lanka have been strengthened over decades through cooperation and shared regional interests.

Writing to Prime Minister Amarasuriya, President Dr Muizzu referred to the strong history of bilateral cooperation and expressed confidence that relations would continue to deepen, particularly in areas such as trade, development and regional stability.

The President also extended his personal best wishes to both leaders, as well as to the people of Sri Lanka, expressing hopes for continued peace, progress and prosperity.

Separately, in a message shared on his official X account, President Dr Muizzu described Sri Lanka as one of Maldives’ closest and most trusted partners, pointing to centuries-old ties between the two nations and wishing Sri Lanka unity and resilience.

Sri Lanka marks its Independence Day annually on 4 February, commemorating independence from British colonial rule in 1948.
