Work has begun to install an additional power generator in Fuvahmulah City ahead of Ramadan.

The project is being carried out by Fenaka Corporation, which said the new generator will help meet the expected rise in electricity consumption during Ramadan.

Speaking to State media, Fenaka stated the company is installing a 1.2-megawatt generator before the start of Ramadan. Construction work is currently underway to prepare the site required to house the new engine.

The Corporation stated said electricity demand during Ramadan is projected to reach around 6.5 megawatts, while the current operational capacity stands at 6 megawatts.

Fenaka is presently providing electricity in Fuvahmulah using nine generators. With all existing engines combined, total installed capacity reaches 8 megawatts.

Fuvahmulah City is a growing urban centre that continues to attract tourists as well as Maldivians relocating from other parts of the country. The city currently has 4,036 households and a population exceeding 13,000.

Electricity demand in Fuvahmulah typically rises sharply during Ramadan, particularly during evening hours when household consumption peaks.
