Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar has said that additional arrangements have been put in place to facilitate households in Malé and Hulhumalé that have yet to collect their canned tuna cases distributed under the Government’s Ramadan Hadhiyaa programme.

According to the Ministry, the measures are aimed at assisting residents who were unable to collect their Roadha Hadhiyaa during the main distribution period due to various reasons. The distribution of canned tuna cases in the Malé area began on 22 January, with the main distribution process concluding on the night of 11 February.

As part of the extended arrangements, households in Malé City, Hulhumalé Phase I and Phase II can collect their remaining cases from designated points, including the Public Works fenda near the Maafannu Track and MIFCO outlets in both Hulhumalé phases. Collections will be facilitated daily between 9:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., except on Fridays.

The Ministry said 14 distribution centres were established across the Greater Malé Region to manage the main distribution phase, with tokens issued to households to streamline the collection process. In the atolls, local councils have been tasked with overseeing the distribution of the canned tuna cases, while MIFCO has continued to assist households that were unable to collect their allocations through regular channels. More than 54,000 cases of canned tuna have so far been distributed in the Greater Malé Region.

The Government has been providing 48 cans of tuna to each household as part of the Ramadan Hadhiyaa programme since last year, in line with a pledge by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to ensure every household receives essential food items ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.
