The Maldives has been named the official host country of ITB Berlin 2027, placing the island nation at the forefront of the global travel industry during the world’s leading travel trade show.
The agreement was signed at ITB Berlin 2026 by Ibrahim Shiuree, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Visit Maldives (MMPRC), and Dr Mario Tobias, Chief Executive Officer of Messe Berlin, during a ceremony at the Maldives stand in Hall 5.2.
As host country, the Maldives will lead the opening gala on 15 March 2027 and showcase its tourism offerings through promotions and cultural activities during the trade show from 16 to 18 March in Berlin.
Visit Maldives CEO Ibrahim Shiuree said the platform would allow the country to highlight its diverse tourism experiences and strengthen ties with global industry partners.
The Maldives, known for its turquoise lagoons, white-sand beaches and coral reefs, plans to promote a wide range of tourism experiences, including luxury resorts, diving, water sports, wellness tourism and cultural activities.
The announcement comes as the Government prepares to mark 2027 as “Visit Maldives Year”, a national campaign announced by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to boost global visibility and promote sustainable growth in the tourism sector. The initiative will include international marketing campaigns, roadshows and participation in major global travel events.
