The Maldives has recorded 502,252 tourist arrivals as of 4 November, reflecting an 8.8 per cent increase compared to the same period last year, according to the latest figures released by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment.
During the same period last year, the Maldives recorded 461,839 tourist arrivals. China remains the leading source market so far this year with 79,681 visitors, followed by Russia with 57,466 arrivals, Italy with 48,417, the United Kingdom with 46,005, and Germany with 31,344 tourists.
Resorts continued to account for the largest share of tourist accommodation, with 336,579 visitors staying at resort properties. Guesthouses recorded the second highest number of stays, with 131,261 tourists choosing guesthouse accommodation across the country.
According to the ministry, the daily average of tourist arrivals has declined in recent days, partly due to flight disruptions linked to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which has affected several flight routes to the Maldives.
Authorities said efforts are underway to resume some of the suspended flights, while steps are also being taken to increase flight connections from other destinations to sustain tourist arrivals to the country.
