Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) has stated that efforts are underway to prioritise traveller safety and maintain the Maldives’ resilience as a tourist destination amid the current situation in the Middle East.
In a statement, VMC said a comprehensive response strategy has been launched to address travel disruptions, in coordination with relevant ministries and industry stakeholders.
As part of these efforts, VMC stated that eight repatriation flights have been facilitated so far, including dedicated services to Germany and France, allowing travellers to return home safely.
A specialised help desk has also been established at Velana International Airport (VIA) in collaboration with Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) and the Ministry of Tourism and Environment to provide assistance to travellers affected by the disruptions.
VMC added that discussions are ongoing with several airlines to explore the possibility of additional flights and improved connectivity in the coming weeks.
The corporation also called for joint marketing efforts across the tourism industry to mitigate the impact on visitor arrivals. These campaigns will focus on markets such as India, China, Russia and other Asian regions where travel disruptions have been comparatively limited.
In addition, VMC stated that work is underway to develop a coordinated crisis response strategy for the destination. The corporation plans to hold discussions with industry stakeholders to review the situation and identify measures to support the tourism sector.
