The Elections Commission has extended the deadline for nominations to contest the North Hithadhoo constituency by-election.

The deadline, which was initially set for April 14 and later extended to April 29, has now been further extended to 3:00 p.m. on May 2, 2026.

Applications must be submitted via email to [email protected]. The by-election for the vacant parliamentary seat is scheduled for June 6, with 4,114 eligible voters.

The seat became vacant following a Supreme Court ruling that former MP Mohamed Sinan had an outstanding debt that remained unpaid. MP Sinan has since expressed interest in contesting again after securing the ticket of the People’s National Congress.
