MP for Funadhoo, Mohamed Mamdooh, has stated that the current Administration has awarded housing projects at a cost reduction of MVR 277,000 per unit compared to those issued during the previous administration.

He made the remarks during parliamentary debate on the proposed 2026 State Budget, responding to opposition claims that the Government’s development projects were being carried out at inflated costs.

MP Mamdooh emphasised that 2025 marked the highest number of project awards in Maldivian democratic history, underscoring the Administration’s focus on large-scale housing and infrastructure development. He added that despite global inflation rising from 3.6 per cent in 2018 to 6.9 per cent in 2023, the Government had managed to negotiate more cost-effective housing contracts.

Highlighting the price difference, MP Mamdooh explained that the reduction equates to MVR 27.7 million in savings for every 100 housing units. He credited the Administration’s fiscal discipline and commitment to efficient spending, expressing confidence that it will deliver unprecedented development across the Maldives.
