President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has visited Rasmalé to inspect the ongoing land reclamation and beach protection projects, which are a major part of the Government’s efforts to expand housing and urban development in the Greater Malé Region.

Accompanied by Cabinet Ministers and senior Government officials, the President was briefed on the progress of the multi-phase project, which aims to develop Rasmalé as an eco-friendly city.

Work on three key sites is advancing rapidly, with Site-J fully completed, and Site-L and Site-C reaching 25.53 per cent and 20.09 per cent completion respectively. The President emphasised that the Government remains committed to accelerating the project’s pace, supported by new dredging equipment expected to triple the speed of reclamation.

Launched in December 2023, the Rasmalé reclamation project covers a total area of 1,153 hectares and represents one of the largest housing-related infrastructure undertakings in the country. Once completed, the project will support the allocation of 15,000 residential land plots, providing much-needed housing opportunities, particularly for Maldivians aged 18 and above who are not yet homeowners.

President Dr Muizzu reaffirmed that the Rasmalé project reflects the Administration’s commitment to sustainable development and inclusive housing, ensuring that growth in the Greater Malé Region meets both social and environmental priorities.
