29 illegal businesses reported in two days

Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed has announced that 29 businesses suspected of being operated illegally by foreign nationals have been reported within 41 hours of the Ministry opening a public reporting channel.

The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade on Thursday invited the public to report cases in which foreigners are found to be conducting business unlawfully in the Maldives.

In a post on X, Minister Saeed said reports had been received from members of the public and various Government agencies, and that action would be taken following investigations.

He added that a national task force established by the President will commence operations from this afternoon to inspect the reported establishments and take necessary action in accordance with the law.

Minister Saeed also expressed appreciation to the public for their cooperation in assisting authorities in identifying illegal business activities.
