Central Maafannu MP Asma Rasheed has apologised for a message circulated to constituents regarding a series of community meetings held by former President Dr Mohamed Muizzu in the Greater Malé Region. The clarification came after media reports suggested she had invited residents to submit questions or messages for the President.

President Dr Muizzu is scheduled to meet with Maafannu residents on Thursday, 4 December, at 8:30 p.m. at Thaajuddeen School. He has already met with residents of Vilimalé and Manchangolhi as part of his ongoing engagement sessions.

Some media outlets reported that MP Asma’s message appeared to solicit questions for the President, prompting widespread criticism on social media. In response, MP Asma issued a statement explaining the intent behind the message she sent on 26 November.

She stated that certain individuals had circulated the message in a misleading manner, resulting in misinterpretation of her communication, adding that she sincerely apologises for the miscommunication. According to MP Asma, the message was intended to help relay the concerns of constituents who might not have the opportunity to address the President directly.

The President’s Office has stated that the President was not aware of the situation.
