PNC Chairperson and Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla has stated that there is no possibility of a no-confidence motion against President Dr Mohamed Muizzu succeeding in Parliament.

He made the remarks while speaking at the campaign launch of PNC candidate Ahmed Saeed for the North Hithadhoo by-election in Addu City last night.

The Speaker’s comments came in response to remarks made by former President Mohamed Nasheed claiming that President Dr Muizzu’s presidency would end before the end of this year. He said Parliament members elected by the public should support the implementation of the President’s policies and contribute to the country’s development.

He further stated that any attempt to bring a no-confidence motion against President Dr Muizzu would not progress in Parliament, adding that the public continues to support the President and his policies.

Referring to the upcoming by-election, Speaker Abdul Raheem said previous election results showed that the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) deserves the North Hithadhoo seat. He also criticised the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), claiming its members in Parliament have failed to effectively hold the Government accountable.

The North Hithadhoo parliamentary by-election is scheduled to be held on June 6.
