Members of the People's Majlis are scheduled to reconvene on June 15 for the next sitting of the second session of Parliament.

The second session of the Majlis commenced on June 1, with members convening for the first sitting of the session following a prolonged pause in parliamentary proceedings. The Parliament Secretariat informed the media that the next sitting is scheduled to take place on June 15.

At the conclusion of the previous sitting, Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla had announced that the next sitting would be held on June 8. However, the latest notice issued by the Secretariat confirmed that the sitting has been scheduled for the following week instead.

Under parliamentary regulations, the first session of the year is ordinarily held between February 1 and May 15. Proceedings were, however, delayed due to the no-confidence motion filed against former Deputy Speaker Ahmed Nazim, which occupied a significant portion of the parliamentary agenda.

During the most recent sitting, members elected Baa Eydhafushi Member of Parliament Ahmed Saleem as Deputy Speaker of the People's Majlis, filling the vacancy created following the successful no-confidence motion.
