World Food Safety Day was commemorated in Faafu Nilandhoo through a series of awareness activities and a special ceremony aimed at promoting safe food practices and strengthening public understanding of food safety.
The programme featured a door-to-door awareness campaign to educate residents on safe food preparation, handling and storage practices, while a special assembly was held for school students to raise awareness about food safety and the prevention of foodborne illnesses.
A special ceremony held as part of the observance was attended by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed as chief guest. Also in attendance were Nilandhoo MP Fathimath Saudha, Minister of Health, Family and Weflare Geela Ali, local council officials, representatives of relevant institutions and other senior officials.
The event included the unveiling of the Maldives Food and Drug Authority's (MFDA) new logo and the launch of the "Samaavaru" programme, an initiative designed to provide training and awareness for food service operators.
MFDA highlighted that food safety is a shared responsibility that extends across the entire food chain, from production to consumption, and cannot be ensured by a single institution alone.
World Food Safety Day is observed globally on 7 June each year. The theme for this year's observance is "From burden to solution: Safe food everywhere”.
